Mr Jones began his career with the highly successful Nucleus group of companies, managing R&D projects for the development of medical devices, including intensive care monitors and cardiac pacemakers.
He was subsequently Manager, New Product Development for Johnson&Johnson Medical, where he was responsible for introducing new products to the J & J group globally.
He was then Director, Technology Commercialisation at Unisearch Limited (now UNSW Innovations), the commercialisation company of the University of NSW. In this role, he worked extensively with academics to translate UNSW research into commercial outcomes, including leading a project to develop a new energy storage technology that was licensed to an ASX listed company.
Mr Jones subsequently founded Innovest Corporate Services to provide strategic, operational and corporate advice to emerging businesses. This includes the assessment of new technologies, management of R&D projects, strategic planning, corporate restructuring, due diligence, operational management and fund-raising.
He has written more than 20 Prospectuses and Information Memoranda for fundraising in excess of $75 million, and has personally managed 5 IPOs raising in excess of $50million.Hehas held positions as General Manager, CEO, CFO, Company Secretary, Director and Chairman for various organisations, including private, public and ASX listed companies, as well as Not-For-Profit organisations.
In 2006, he founded Innovest Capital Limited, a Pooled Development Fund providing financial and executive support to emerging Australian businesses, with a focus on new technologies. This involved the origination of investment opportunities, technology evaluation, due diligence and strategic planning, as well as acquisitions and divestments, with a focus on start-ups and SMEs.
In 2016, Mr Jones founded FLEDGE Innovation Labs, a social-impact project specialising in the development and commercialisation of medical devices. Based on a collaborative partnership with CSIRO, FLEDGEwas established to provide hardware-based start-ups with low-cost access to collaborative working spaces, technical and scientific equipment, and an extensive network of experts and mentors with C-level experience in the medical devices industry. Fledge has since supported 22 start-ups and 68 founders, and has provided internships to 71 undergraduate and post-graduate students fromAustralian National University, Macquarie University, University of Newcastle, University of NSW, University of Sydney and University of Technology, Sydney, in the disciplines of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, computer science, information technology, business studies, medicine and clinical science.
Mr Jones contributed to the NSW Enterprise Workshop, a not-for-profit organisation providing pro-bono leadership and mentoring to emerging business, as a mentor since 2007, and as a Board Member until 2017. He is also a mentor for IMNIS (Industry Mentoring Network in STEM), and provides advisory and mentoring services to founders and researchers under various innovation and educational programmes. He is a member of the AusIndustry Expert Network, and sits on external AdvisoryPanels for Macquarie University and the University of Newcastle.
Mr Jones has BSc (Computing, Maths, Law) and MBA (Strategy, Finance, Marketing) degrees from the University of Sydney, and is a Graduate and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
