Anthony Filippis is an internationally experienced senior leader with deep understanding and knowledge of the biotechnology, medical, pharmaceutical, healthcare and investment industries. He is currently the CEO & Managing Director of Neurosciences Victoria Limited, a company driving a collaborative neuroscience and mental health community to engage with governments and industry to translate research into health and commercial outcomes.
With over 20 years’ experience in business & corporate development, operations and senior management in ASX-listed and private companies, Anthony has developed strong commercial management and leadership skills through his Board of Directors, CEO, Executive Director, Vice President and Founder positions across these industries.
Anthony’s skills and experience span the business value-chain, from innovation to translation, through to commercialisation. Anthony has identified many product opportunities and raised capital in the United States of America (USA) as Founder of a biotechnology company and knows that understanding your value proposition, the market need globally, and how well you articulate your offering, combined with entrepreneurial flair, is paramount to success.
One of Anthony’s recent career achievements was spearheading the investment of $50m for Traumatic Brain Injury research from the Australian Federal Government’s Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) in 2019. Over his career, Anthony has also closed many biotechnology deals, including multi-million-dollar licensing, M&A, and financing transactions, with companies including AstraZeneca, Schering Plough (acquired by Merck), and Meditech Research (acquired by Alchemia).
Anthony has been a consultant to many companies, including Takeda Pharmaceuticals (USA), Mundipharma (UK), and Solasia K.K. (Japan), and is an experienced Non-Executive Director with Board roles including Impel Neuropharma Australia Pty Ltd, Cerebral Therapeutics Pty Ltd, and Vision TBI Limited. Anthony is also a committee member of the Australian Stroke Alliance Program Board and Commercialisation Committee.
Anthony received his PhD in biochemistry from the University of Melbourne and holds an MBA, specialising in entrepreneurship and innovation and new venture creation.
Further to his career achievements, Anthony gains satisfaction by helping researchers through mentoring, socialising with family and friends, and indulging in wine, food, and sports.
