Tong Xie is currently a 22 years old PhD candidate (second year) in the School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering (SPREE), UNSW Sydney. Now, his research lies in using advanced machine learning algorithms to accelerate the development of photovoltaics and renewable energy. Focusing on: 1. Use nature language processing method for text mining in Photovoltaics & Renewable Energy. 2. Pre-screen potential materials for renewable energy application, accelerating the design of high-efficiency devices for green energy applications. 3. To accelerate the time-intensive process optimization and characterization of multidimensional parameter space through Bayesian optimisation and time-series analysis.
In 2020, he completed his bachelor’s degree in Engineering at Monash University (Australia) & bachelor’s degree in Engineering at Central South University (China), obtained a first-class honour. His undergraduate thesis was the investigation of ion diffusion mechanisms within perovskite solar cell and delegated the school of engineering to present his research at the International Conference of Undergraduate Research 2019.
Beyond his PhD, Tong has taken on multiple experiences in finance and business. He had been launched two start-up company in travel and blockchain during the past 4 years. Furthermore, he worked as a student assistant at the US-Australian advanced Photovoltaics Institute and his work mainly focused on web design and front end. Tong believes that the combination of finance and technology could power the development of the worldwide renewables industry.
