Thilanka Morawakage, mentee in the 2019 MedTech-Pharma program in VIC (Monash University)

I graduated from The University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Pharmacology in 2017. Then in mid-2018, I moved to Monash University where I am currently completing my Master of Biomedical and Health Science degree. My research project will evaluate the effects of IRAP inhibition on NLRP3 inflammasome activity and will be undertaken in the Samuel Laboratory, in the Department of Pharmacology at Monash University.

I have also been volunteering as a Research Assistant on the Sport Concussion Assessment Tool 5 (SCAT5) and HeadCheck studies since late 2017, at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. My role involves screening and recruiting eligible participants from the emergency department of the Royal Children’s Hospital.

I am looking forward to participating as a mentee in the 2019/2020 Victorian IMNIS MedTech-Pharma Program. I believe it will be a great opportunity to gain an insight into industry careers, learn new professional skills and expand my professional network.
