Klaudia Adamus, mentee in the 2019 MedTech-Pharma program in VIC (Monash University).

I am a PhD researcher in the field of biochemistry at Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (Monash University, Australia). I possess a Polish equivalent of Master of Science in Engineering Degree in biotechnology with the specialisation in chemical biotechnology – drugs and cosmetics. Since the beginning of my higher education my research interests are strongly related to medical applications of biotechnology. I have a solid research experience gained, both, during my time at the universities and during various traineeships taken in the leading scientific Polish centres and in the medical sciences division of one of the best universities in the world (Oxford University, UK).

My past research projects were focused on biomedical applications of biotechnology i.e. synthesis of novel biopharmaceuticals followed by testing their toxicity and activity. My PhD project focuses on understanding structural, biological and functional dependencies underlying the process of transcription and involves the use of the variety of biochemical techniques for protein purification and activity tests, combined with cryogenic transmission electron microscopy. After obtaining my PhD I would like to apply my expertise to help grow the biotech industry while working for the leading biotechnology companies.
