Indra McKie is a PhD student in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, investigating the perceptions, understanding and use of conversational artificial intelligence (voice assistants like Google Home and Alexa) by long term users, families with senior members, and families with children. Under the multidisciplinary team of Associate Professor Bhuva Narayan (Information Science), Dr. Baki Kocaballi (Human Computer Interaction) and Dr. Gail Kenning (Interaction Design), her thesis triangulates technology, human and AI relationships, asking, how do users construct an understanding of voice assistants and how does this understanding shape their perception and use of voice assistants?
Indra has recently joined Westpac as Virtual Chatbot Analyst and over the last couple of years has advocated for the HDR experience at UTS as a student representative on Academic and other boards. During her candidature she has also held positions as an Academic Librarian, Learning Technology Advisor, Research Assistant, Conversation Designer and Casual Academic tutoring within the Digital and Social Media discipline at UTS.
