IMNIS Mentee Idris Najib

Idris is conducting his PhD in Biomedical Science at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) under Prof. Derek Richard in the Cancer and Ageing Research Program (CARP) group. His research revolves around mRNA and transcription pathways. The first study investigates novel pathways that the transcription and export (TREX) complex is able to regulate. The next study characterises how the TREX complex is able to control DNA damage repair after radiation damage. The final study investigates the therapeutic potential of the TREX complex in drug-resistant non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC).

After graduating with a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at QUT, he worked at a cardiac diagnostic clinic called Heartcare Partners for two years. He decided to follow his passion of science and completed my Masters in Biomedical Science with CARP and also worked as a research assistant there.

Outside of PhD studies, Idris is a co-owner of a dietetic consultation business called Simple and Easy Nutrition (SEN). At SEN we are currently planning on expanding our operations and diversifying the services that we offer.
