IMNIS Mentee Ed Marschall
Edward Marschall is a PhD student in the Biomedical Discovery Institute (BDI) at Monash University, Clayton. Ed’s PhD project, undertaken in the laboratory of Max Cryle, is concerned with the development of glycopeptide antibiotics with a particular focus towards harnessing the biosynthetic machinery that produces them. The interdisciplinary nature of his work has provided Ed with skills in synthetic peptide and organic chemistry, as well as protein expression and biochemical assays. Ed has a keen interest in understanding natural products and their potential for use as therapeutics and agrochemicals as well as the biology behind their production. A desire to incorporate new technologies and capabilities in science has led Ed to dabble in the 3D printing of complex chemical structures and the creation of molecular dynamics simulations in his own time.
