Christine Lison, mentee in the Energy-Minerals Resources program in WA (Curtin University)

After obtaining qualifications in environmental management I worked as an Environmental Consultant for five years, where I specialised in the co-ordination and planning of environmental approvals in both the mining and infrastructure sector. Having a background in plant and soil science I was also able to assist companies in the preparation of rehabilitation strategies and mine closure plans. It was during this time that I became increasingly interested in mine restoration after observing some of the challenges that industry faced in its implementation. I then moved to the recently launched Centre of Mine Site Restoration so I could concentrate more on addressing some of these challenges. Currently I am examining how the addition of waste rock to topsoil covers can influence the performance of plants in restoration.
