
Chelsea Thorn, mentee in the 2018 MedTech-Pharma program in SA (University of South Australia)
Chelsea Thorn is currently a PhD Student at the University of South Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) from the University of South Australia and is a registered pharmacist. Chelsea strives towards translating fundamental biomedical research into the clinic to achieve the best health outcomes in the community. Her research philosophy is to save patients’ lives by developing alternative solutions to overcome significant medical issues using innovations in pharmaceutical science. By deploying smart, bio-responsive delivery systems her research currently focuses on delivering new protein therapeutics to treat highly resistant bacterial infections. In 2019 Chelsea was awarded a prestigious Postgraduate Endeavour Leadership Award, funded by the Australian Government to continue her PhD research at the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland in Germany. After PhD completion, Chelsea wishes to continue as a scientist in the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Besides maintaining her pharmacist registration in Australia, Chelsea is avid on engaging the wider community in science, where she is involved with a range of science outreach events. Chelsea is also highly involved in the Controlled Release Society (CRS) through the Young Scientist Committee as a social media coordinator, in addition to the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Young Pharmacist Committee.
