IMNIS Mentee - Carl Wang

IMNIS Mentee – Carl Wang

Carl is a second-year PhD student at Monash University’s Biomedicine Discovery Institute under the supervision of Dr. Jérôme Le Nours and Prof. Jamie Rossjohn, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of small organic molecule antigen presentation of MR1 to Mucosal-Associated Invariant T-cells, using a mixture of biochemical, biophysical, crystallographic, and cellular studies to discover novel ligands for MR1 and their potential effects on this conserved arm of the human immune system.

Previously, Carl completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Hons.) and a Bachelor of Science (Major: Chemistry) at Monash University, with his Honours focusing on the recognition of MR1 by γδ T-cells.

Outside of his PhD, Carl is the secretary for the NOTDRS Biochemistry Graduate student society, a teaching associate for second-year undergraduate physiology units, and a library officer at the State Library of Victoria.
