
Amy Jiang, mentee in the 2019 MedTech-Pharma program in NSW (UNSW)
From her engineering background and interest in medicine, Amy Jiang has developed a passion for solving medical problems through an engineering approach. She received her Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and Master’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of New South Wales, Sydney in 2015. She is currently a second-year PhD candidate at UNSW with the support of Research Training Program Scholarship from the Australian government.
Her major research interests include biomaterials and proteoglycan proteins and her PhD project focuses on developing a vascular graft for small blood vessels, such as the coronary artery. This application will benefit all the patients who have had a heart attack and requires bypass surgery. Her work has been presented at various conferences, including the Australian Biomedical Engineering Conference (ABEC), Sydney Cardiovascular Symposium and the NIH PCTC Cardiovascular Bioengineering Symposium, and she was awarded the best poster presentation at the ABEC, 2018.
