Aida Carneiro, mentee in the 2018 Energy-Minerals program in Western Australia (UWA)

Aida Carneiro graduated as a Mining Engineer from the Federal University of Ouro Preto, Brazil. She was also a visiting student at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and at the European School of Business, Germany. While in Canada, she worked as an intern at the Mining Association of British Columbia with focus on permitting processes, environmental impact assessment, mining regulations, and stakeholders’ engagement. As a PhD candidate at The University of Western Australia, she is working on the development of a methodology to evaluate alternative strategies for the management of tailings based on a more holistic approach. For the last three years, she gained experience in the design of tailings storage facilities, equipment sizing, economic analyses, and the use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies for the evaluation of project options.
